With 1,000 exhibitors, 10 miles of aisles, and over 40,000 attendees, The PGA Merchandise Show can be overwhelming which is why I've narrowed down my top favorites for you!
Each of these products enhances performance from the inside out. Don't get me wrong, there were amazing innovations in Club Technology this year, but at the same time, I'm a believer that the best investment you can make is in yourself.

Blast Golf is part swing sensor, part pocket coach. You attach their sensor to the end of the grip on any club and it gives you feedback about your tempo, changes in face angle and loft, and many other parameters. It can work with putting as well as your driver although they don't recommend using it for chip shots. It syncs up with your smart device and can be set for different tolerance parameters to dial in the feedback you're looking for. You can even sync video with each swing so you not only see the numbers but can compare it directly to the swing you just made. By the time I finished the 5 minute demo with their rep, I felt my putting rhythm improve and I could quantify that change as well.
I was first introduced to FitAID and LifeAID nearly two years ago by Gary and Alea Helmick who carry their products at their Columbia, Maryland gym, CrossFit ReVamped where I used to coach. So when I found out they introduced a new product specifically for golfers, I couldn't wait to try it. Even though it was only 78 degrees during demo day, the sun was beating and having come from Portland where we haven't seen a strong sun since the summer, I could tell I was starting to get dehydrated. After drinking a can of GolferAID I felt my hydration replenish and was able to spend the next few hours on the range talking to exhibitors, trying products, and not once feeling light headed or weak. There's no caffeine but the vitamins and formula are designed to work with your body naturally to provide gentle energy and hydration without crashing.
FAVORITE TRAINING AID
Orange Whip Wedge
If you've taken Private Lessons with me, there's a good chance that at some point we've worked with the Orange Whip, a training aid designed to enhance feel, rhythm, and balance, three of the most important things to focus on. They've now introduced an Orange Whip Wedge designed in partnership with famed instructor Stan Utley. This training aid gives you all the benefits of the original orange whip but is functional. You can even hit balls with it! Now they recommend not taking full swings when hitting the ball but it's perfect for working on delicate pitches and chip shots making sure your timing and balance fall into place. It's difficult at first but once you get it down and understand that you need to remain tension free, things start to fall into place.
Tie: Jason Glass / Lynn Marriott & Pia Nilsson
There were so many great presentations I attended that it's very difficult to narrow down my favorite but our winners were able to inspire me to take immediate action of my routines and reach for greater goals.
Jason Glass is the former Canadian National Strength and Conditioning Coach and is now regarded as a world renowned Rotational Sport Expert (think Golf, Hockey, Baseball). His passion, energy, and comedy was so fun to watch and he made me want to rethink my goals in the gym to accommodate more Central Nervous System Stressing exercises rather than just getting stronger. By learning how to be a "dimmer switch" not just a "light switch" your ability to control the strength you already have will improve and so too will your game.
Pia Nilsson & Lynn Marriott are world renowned Golf coaches who have worked with some of the best players the game has ever seen including 2 professionals who have shot 59 in competition, Annika Sorenstam, and Russell Knox. Their focus is on mental performance, awareness, emotion control, and feel during the golf swing. I picked up their new book "Be a Player" which is a very enjoyable read packed full of tons of great information. Their business, VISION54, teaches golfers how to work towards the illusive "perfect round" of 18 under par.
